About The Neighborhood
S. Rhodes Avenue is a 2 unit rental apartment building located in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood. Chatham was settled in the mid 19th century by immigrants in search of employment in the steel mills and factories along the nearby lakeshore. In the 1870s, the area was developed to support the construction and operation of the Illinois Central rail line. Chatham’s largest expansion occurred in the 1920s and 1930s. It was during this time that when many of the distinctive brick bungalow-style homes and two-flats that line the streets were built. S. Rhodes Avenue is a vintage example of the style and lasting quality of the homes built during this time.
