About The Neighborhood
W. Bloomingdale Avenue is a 2 unit rental apartment building in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. Like many of the neighborhoods west of the Loop, Belmont Cragin was first populated by immigrants seeking employment in nearby factories and railroads. In fact, the name “Cragin” was lent to the area by Cragin Brothers & Co. after the company established a metal processing plant in the area in 1882. As the manufacturing and transportation industries flourished, so did the area’s stock of residential housing. 5148 W. Bloomingdale was built in 1925 during the height of the neighborhood’s residential construction boom. Belmont Cragin retains its character as a busy, diverse neighborhood with strong ties to manufacturing and industry. The Radio Flyer factory on Grand Avenue and its 1,500 pound replica of the company’s famous red wagon is a notable local landmark.
