About The Neighborhood
W. Walton Street is an 8 unit rental apartment building in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. Centered around the eponymous park, Humboldt Park is one of Chicago’s largest and most diverse neighborhoods and has been home to many immigrant communities over the years. Commemorative statues and sculptures adorning the park attest to this fact, with representations of German, Scandinavian, Polish, and Puerto Rican history. The neighborhood has also fostered a number of acclaimed authors including Nelson Algren, Studs Terkel, Isaac Rosenfeld, Sandra Cisneros, and Nobel Prize-winner Saul Bellow. Another item of interest about Humboldt Park: the Jibarito, a type of sandwich with fried plantain in place of bread was invented at Borinquen Restaurant, a Puerto Rican establishment on California Ave. that has since become a local favorite.
